It arose thanks to the teacher, journalist, writer and violinist Francisco Montoto y García, who, together with a group of friends, proposed the annual celebration for the date of the second Sunday of May. In Parque Martí, the former Plaza de Armas, there is a monument to the mothers of the year 1945, the work of the sculptor Plácido Crespo, and a plaque honors Francisco Montoto y García and his group of young people who, from that night of April made possible the celebration of Mother's Day on the island of Cuba.</span></pre>
